The Pioneer Settlement for the Creative Arts is non-profit museum with a living history lesson. It has an historical pioneer village outside, and several learning classrooms inside the large main building.
The whole concept of this organization, is to educate young and old about the history of Pioneer Life here in Florida. Children and adults can learn how people lived, how they cooked, what they ate, how they made clothes, how they made candles, tools, houses and more!
It is open to the public year round, and also open for field trips with groups of 10 or more offering some fantastic educational themes such as a Pioneer Program, a Lassie Cake Program, a Seminole Indian Program, A Florida History Program, Timucuan-Myaccan Program, An Old Fashioned Traditions Program, and the Rites of Spring Program. Check their website to find out more details, and to make your field trip reservations!
They also have some amazing summer camp programs for kids ages 8 and up here as well, with such themes as, Cowboy and Cowgirl Cracker Camp, where kids will experience the life of the cattle rancher in Central Florida in the late 1800's. I Can Dig It (2 parts), where kids will create an archaeological dig on a frontier site, and a native American site. Native American Lore, kids will learn all about local Native American life.
Throughout the year they have special festivals, and community gatherings, with food, music, and re-enactments for the whole family to enjoy. The first Saturday of every month is a First Saturday Jam, which has an open music jam and dance!
Bryan and I really enjoyed our visit! He learned so many things about how people used to live, and even got to pet some real live goats, sheep, horse and donkey. The real peacocks were showing off their beautiful plumage, and the roosters were cock-a-doodle-dooing!
This is a fantastic learning adventure to share with the whole family. There is a very large covered picnic area and a concession stand serving lunch and snacks, so you can spend the whole day!
Come take a virtual tour!
